ISCC EU is a certification scheme recognized by the European Commission to demonstrate compliance with the Renewable Energy Directive (RED II). This directive sets sustainability and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions savings criteria for biofuels, bioliquids, and biomass fuels used in the EU. ISCC EU covers a wide range of materials, including agricultural and forest biomass, waste and residues, and recycled carbon fuels. It ensures that these materials meet stringent ecological and social requirements.

ISCC PLUS is a voluntary certification scheme that extends beyond the scope of ISCC EU. It is applicable to various markets, including food, feed, chemicals, plastics, and textiles. ISCC PLUS supports the transition to a circular economy and sustainable bioeconomy by certifying all types of biomass, waste, residues, and recycled carbon materials. This scheme can be customized with voluntary add-ons to meet specific market requirements.

ISCC Japan FIT is tailored to meet the requirements of Japan’s Feed-in Tariff (FIT) system, which incentivizes the production of renewable electricity. This certification ensures that bioliquids and biomass used for energy purposes in Japan comply with the sustainability criteria set by Japan’s Ministry for Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI). ISCC Japan FIT helps producers gain access to subsidies and other benefits under the FIT system.

ISCC CORSIA is designed for the aviation industry, aligning with the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) developed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). This certification ensures that sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) meet the sustainability criteria required for CORSIA compliance. ISCC CORSIA helps airlines reduce their carbon footprint and achieve carbon-neutral growth from 2020 onwards.

Group 135

ISCC CORSIA PLUS builds on the ISCC CORSIA scheme by incorporating additional sustainability criteria. While ISCC CORSIA covers the official CORSIA requirements, ISCC CORSIA PLUS includes more comprehensive criteria, such as social standards and best agricultural practices. This enhanced certification is particularly relevant for agricultural and forestry feedstocks, ensuring a higher level of sustainability.
